The Post Trailer (2018)
Trailer for The Post, starring Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep and Alison Brie.
Steven Spielberg directs Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in The Post, a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post's Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers - and their very freedom - to help bring long-buried truths to light.
The Post marks the first time Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have collaborated on a project. At least, that's the big marketing push from 20th Century Fox.
Maybe not to favor a particular publication, the original title of The Post was changed to The Papers. But, then you ask, isn't the film called The Post? The answer is yes, as they reversed the decision to change the title later on in post production. If you think that is interesting, the film was shot under a different working title altogether: Nor'Easter.
I'm one of those who see films entirely for escape. So, if a film is historical enough -- let's say Civil War or a War in general -- I'll go see it. In regards to The Post, I like what is being shown, but have absolutely no draw to it. And why? Well, I'm burned out on the media as a whole, so not exactly looking forward to a film that focuses exactly on the media. Feels a bit more like a pat on the back for mainstream media rather than any sort of escape.
So I'll be sitting this one out. But, in regards to how the film looks, it looks terrific. The mixture of cast is excellent, and the cinematography looks spot on. So, if you are into that, check it out.
