Trailer for The Other Bank, which screened at the 2009 Santa Fe Film Festival.

In 1991, following the breakup of the Soviet Union, the northwest region of the Republic of Georgia called Abkhazia fell under a series of attacks by Russian-backed separatists who engaged in the systematic killing of Georgian men and the assault and rape of Georgian women and children. Thousands fled the region, becoming, in UN terms, "internally displaced". The attempt at ethnic cleansing was undertaken with the knowledge of the Russian government who supported the separatists claim of independence from the Republic of Georgia. Fearing for their safety, an Abkhazian man sends his Georgian wife and young son to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Once back in Tbilisi, the young boy grows apart from his mother, who, after several years with no contact from her husband has begun to see other men. Young Tedo's challenges, as he makes his way back to the war-torn region of Abkhazia to find his father include a ride from young arms dealers who assault a young girl, a train conductor who literally throws him off a moving train, an Abkhazian family whose husband suspects he is Georgian, a truck driver who abandons him on a mountain roadside, and a Russian soldier who kills a fellow rider in a wagon.
