A sleepy teenage boy, doted upon by his school teacher mother, meets up with a girl in a park; a professor at a music school feels muddled and confused, while at home his wife chats with her best friend about travel plans with their infant son; and a family in a restaurant celebrating the birthday of one of their sons prepares for a special visitor. Monologues in the forms of songs of surprise and sometimes sorrow punctuate each one of these absorbing pieces that detail the profound meaning children bring to our lives.
