Condensed trailer for The Happytime Murders has a bit of fun with the idea of rewards season.
Film is set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives, one human and one puppet, are forced to work together to try and solve who is brutally murdering the former cast of “The Happytime Gang,” a beloved classic puppet show.
What's crazy about The Happytime Murders is that the film is directed by Brian Henson. If the name sounds familiar, that's because this is the son of muppets creator Jim Henson.
As evident by the marketing, the film will spoof plenty of other film's and pop culture properties. By doing so, the production team has already landed in some hot water. It turns out that Sesame Workshop didn't like the tagline, "No sesame. All street." The company sued the production, claiming that the film's marketing damages their reputation.
If only because I adore Melissa McCarthy in the actioner spoof Spy, I'm giving The Happytime Murders a chance. The film looks ridiculous, which I'm okay with. My only concern at the moment is the film's August release date. As this is typically where the junk movies turn up.
At this point, this comedic spoof is one big coin flip.
