The Greatest Showman's timing is spot on. In January 2017, the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus, the circus founded by P.T. Barnum, announced they would be closing their doors forever, due to decreased attendance and protests by animal rights activists. Their last shows was May 21, 2017.

The Greatest Show will be Hugh Jackman's first musical since Les Misérables back in 2012.

Zac Efron is no stranger to the musical scene. This will be his fifth musical. He got his musical start with the High School Musical trilogy and Hairspray.

Hugh Jackman returns to musicals. Lets be honest that broadway and musicals are Jackman's passion and Wolverine just happened by chance. Even with that being said, it is hard to picture him as anything but Wolverine.

The cast is strong in this film with plenty of musical talent in Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson. I also like the cinematography used, in a couple scenes it felt like shots from Moulin Rouge meets Prestige (of course you cannot think of this film, where Jackman played the magician Robert Angier, while watching this).

While I think this is a compelling story and very fitting for right now seeing that Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus recently just closed their doors for good, the feel and tone of film is not what I was expecting. The song used in the trailer, "This Is Me", completely threw me off. There is a level of cheesiness to the trailer and the song only added to it. I still think there could be a good film here and just hope that the next trailer can shed a better light.
