The journalist extensively covered the polarizing and vexing circumstances surrounding the 2007 slaying of British student Meredith Kercher in Italy and subsequent trial of her roommate, Knox, and Knox’s then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. Despite questionable evidence and a troubled investigation, Italian courts initially found the pair guilty before the conviction was eventually overturned on March 27.
