Film draws heavily from the reports of Newsweek and Daily Beast writer Barbie Latza Nadeau. The journalist extensively covered the polarizing and vexing circumstances surrounding the 2007 slaying of British student Meredith Kercher in Italy and subsequent trial of her roommate, Knox, and Knox’s then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. Despite questionable evidence and a troubled investigation, Italian courts initially found the pair guilty before the conviction was eventually overturned on March 27.
