Teaser trailer for The Discovery, starring Robert Redford, Rooney Mara, Jason Segel, Riley Keough and Jesse Plemons.

Dr. Thomas Harbor (Robert Redford) has made a scientific breakthrough that shocked the world. This knowledge has thrown our lives off balance and challenged everything we know about life and death. What is The Discovery?

Trailer

While the teaser trailer for The Discovery shows a lot of Jason Segel, it turns out that the role was originally meant for somebody else. Warm Bodies' very own Nicholas Hoult was initially cast to star, but fell out due to scheduling conflicts with another production. While it is sad to see Hoult go, it should be interesting to watch Segel break away from comedy this time around.

Besides, the casting of Segel allowed for a reunion with him and Rooney Mara. The two were last seen sharing the screen together in the Will Smith flop Collateral Beauty.

Now that is how you do a teaser trailer! Though it clocks in at ninety seconds, the first trailer for The Discovery is sure not to give anything away. Focusing on the Roy Orbison track "Only the Lonely", the preview quickly takes a dark turn with the help of the usually upbeat song. Well, upbeat for save for the lonely part. But I digress...

The Discovery looks fantastic. And I say that with absolutely no idea on what's going on. The visuals and the slowed-down song have tons of impact, even when lacking dialogue. Of course, the end of the trailer does give us a bit of conversation, but that doesn't provide much.

In short, one can't help but love this. If Netflix decided this was it, and instead forced audiences to see the film to figure out what is taking place, we couldn't blame them. So is it possible for a more revealing trailer before its March release? Likely. But damn, I'm revelling in the unknown.
