The Dark Tower Trailer (2017)

Trailer for The Dark Tower starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba.

Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) is a young 11-year-old adventure seeker who discovers clues about another dimension called Mid-World. Upon following the mystery, he is spirited away to Mid-World where he encounters a Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), who is on a quest to reach the "Dark Tower" that resides in End-World and reach the nexus point between time and space that he hopes will save all existence from extinction. But with various monsters and a vicious sorcerer named Walter Padick (Matthew McConaughey) hot on their trail, the unlikely duo find that their quest may be difficult to complete.

The Dark Tower is science fantasy Western horror film based on the series of novels of the same name by Stephen King. Although the film is based on the books, it will not be a typical adaptation, but more of a new take on the series.

Stephen King's book has been trying to become a feature film for ten years now. It all started back in 2007. The proposed film adaptation has gone through three major phases of planning: initially with J. J. Abrams from 2007 to 2009, then with Ron Howard from 2010 to 2015, and currently with Arcel with Howard remaining in a producing role.

Along with the production changes, the film has seen several release date changes. The film was originally scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017. In November 2016, the film was pushed back to a July 28, 2017 release date to fill the release date for the Jumanji reboot. In late March 2017, it was pushed back again to August 4, 2017, switching places with Sony Pictures Animation's The Emoji Movie.

To say that based on this trailer that this film looks bad-ass is an understatement. I am typically not a huge fan of fantasy type films but this one looks great!

I am a little mixed on the two lead actors Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba. While I love just about everything that Elba is in, McConaughey can be hit or miss. I know McConaughey is taking on more serious roles lately with Gold, Free State of Jones, Interstellar and Dallas Buyers Club but it is hard to imagine his as a serious villain. Elba looks to be the perfect casting here and if there was ever any talk of making a new Blade film, he should be on the top of the list.

This trailer does a great job at introducing the story line for people who may not be familiar with the books along with giving us some of the great action we would expect. Trailer did its job, I am hyped!
