The biopic tells the story of the young Alejandro (the director) as he comes of age in the shadow of his doting mother and domineering father (played by Jodorowsky's son Brontis), and is the parade of absurd, aberrant vignettes you would expect from the director of El Topo and The Holy Mountain. Tying them together are Jodorowsky's mystic, magic realist musings and an autobiographical pathos that is heightened by his own family's involvement in the film.
