After a ten-year marriage plagued by waves of mounting brutality, Brad Waldroup's dreaded outbursts culminated one horrific day, October 13, 2006, when Brad attacked his wife Penny with a gun and machete and murdered her best friend, all in front of their four young children. The story opens five-and-a-half-years later as the family continues to struggle with deep psychic wounds.
