Suburbicon Trailer

in Suburbicon | Posted on July 27, 2017 Runtime: 2:24

Trailer for George Clooney's Suburbicon starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac.

Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns…the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must navigate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence. This is a tale of very flawed people making very bad choices. This is Suburbicon.

The film is Directed by well known actor George Clooney. This will be his fifth feature film where he sat in the Director's chair:

The Monuments Men
The Ides of March
Leatherheads
Good Night, and Good Luck
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

There are only two of these films in which Clooney directed where he was also not a Writer: Leatherheads & Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Another interesting fact for Clooney is that this marks the first time George Clooney directs a film that he does not have an acting role in.

Suburbicon is written by the Coen Brothers (Ethan Coen & Joel Coen) along with George Clooney.
George has acted in four of the Coen Brother's movies stemming back to O Brother, Where Art Thou?. But this is the first time that George Clooney will direct a Coen Brothers script.

There is no mistake about it, this film has the Coen Brothers feel one would expect to see. The tone, quirkiness and of the wall dark humor we have seen in films like True Grit, Burn After Reading, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, etc can be seen here too. And then you thrown in George Clooney to the mix...which could either be a good thing or bad thing.

George has relatively little experience in the Director's chair and seems to pick unique stories to tell. His films do not do very well at the box office. In fact, Leatherheads lost money. They seem like passion projects and a possible new direction for the established actor. Plus he probably has lots of time of his hands and is in no need of taking on a sub-par acting role just for the check.

While I do not think this film will be a huge box office winner, I think it has potential with a recipe for a good film. It looks like a clever film, the type of film we may see come awards season. With names like George Clooney, Coen Brothers, Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Oscar Issac...this is a must see for me.
