Anyone over a certain age may not necessarily remember the pop group The Bells, but they will likely recognize their signature song “Stay Awhile,” which was a worldwide monster hit back in the early 1970s. One of Canada’s first-ever musical sensations to crack the American market, The Bells appeared on the US television hit show American Bandstand, played New York City’s prestigious Copacabana Club and toured extensively, making the rounds of Canada’s variety and musical shows. The daughter of two of the group’s principals, filmmaker Jessica Edwards, weaves together contemporary interviews with Super 8 footage that documents The Bells’s rise to fame. The result is an intimate portrait of one of Canada’s first pop music success stories.
