Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Trailer (2017)
Trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, starring Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver. Trailer first appeared during Monday Night Football.
The Last Jedi begins immediately after the last scene of The Force Awakens. Finn makes his way out of recovery while Rey continues to train with Luke Skywalker.
Though people are curious about what role Benicio Del Toro may have in Star Wars The Last Jedi, the first two trailers have so far given us nothing regarding his character. The actor is supposedly playing a villain, which feels long overdue considering that Del Toro was initially cast to play Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace. The actor dropped out when the script got updated by George Lucas, leaving that villain with few lines of dialogue.
While more Star Wars spin-offs are likely, Ewan McGregor did request to make an appearance in this film. How so? Well, considering that the last installment had no issue with flashbacks, it's easy to expect the same this time around.
I'm on the fence! I know, I love Star Wars, so should be over-the-top excited about The Last Jedi trailer. But, at least for the first half, I felt sort of underwhelmed and a bit worried about the heavy use of CG. The walker sequence looks like a cinematic to a console video game.
Or am I just splitting hairs?
Fortunately, the trailer picks up pace by the second half. With my only disappointment on that side being Mark Hamill's warnings. Not sure if it's the cinematography -- it looks artificially zoomed in -- but the scene with Luke Skywalker doesn't exactly hit home like it should.
Ehh, maybe I'm just attempting to keep my expectation at bay this time around.
On a side note, it is cool to see Rey train.
