Special Correspondents Feature Trailer (2016)
Feature trailer for Special Correspondents, that was released by Ricky Gervais for the film's Netflix premiere.
A radio journalist and his technician get in over their heads when they hatch a scheme to fake their own kidnapping during a rebel uprising in South America and hide out in New York instead.
While Netflix will handle the domestic distribution of Special Correspondents through its premium network, the film will be handled overseas by Sony Pictures, who will release it to theaters. Before anyone can see it however, the film will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22nd, 2016, a week ahead of its Netflix premiere.
Though Ricky Gervais claims Special Correspondents is not an obvious comedy, the trailer definitely shows off what looks to be a fun film. Unlike the first trailer, this second preview gives a better idea of how Frank (Eric Bana) and Ian (Ricky Gervais) ended up in their er, predicament. After that, the story sets up tons of antics to be had.
What is left out this time around is the war-style action seen in the last trailer, so we can only wonder if Netflix is hoping to capture audiences looking for a more goofy joyride.
Best part of the trailer is that it gives absolutely no hints on how Frank, Ian and company get out of this sticky situation, which make me curious enough to check out this film on the day of its premiere.
