Search Party Red Band Trailer

Red band trailer for Search Party gives an extended R-rated preview of the film, now being domestically released by Focus Worls on May 13th, 2016, to theaters and VOD.

Wedding bells threaten to break up three best friends' long-running bromance, but they aren't going down without a fight in Search Party, the directing debut of screenwriter Scot Armstrong (The Hangover Part II, Old School).

Convinced that his buddy Nardo (Thomas Middleditch) is making the mistake of a lifetime by marrying Tracy (Shannon Woodward), Jason (T.J. Miller) puts a dramatic end to their wedding. When the furious bride decides to take her Baja honeymoon solo, Nardo follows her-where the lovesick groom is carjacked and left stranded, naked and penniless in a remote part of the Mexican desert. Helpless, Nardo sends out an SOS to Jason and their pal Evan (Adam Pally), an up-and-coming ad exec slated for an important business meeting the next morning. During their ridiculous attempt to rescue Nardo, the trio embarks on a series of increasingly outrageous misadventures involving con artists, drug smugglers and even the Federales in this wild and wacky action comedy.

While the cast of the film looks awesome, especially with half of HBO's Silicon Valley landing roles, there is something up with Search Party. It was supposed to be released in 2014, then it got pushed to 2015 with Universal Pictures, never saw a theater, and is now under the guidance of Focus World for another attempt at a limited theatrical release in May, 2016, while simultaneously being released to VOD and Digital HD. Not exactly stoking the embers we call confidence.

The Search Party red band trailer looks like a lot of fun and an R-rated preview was definitely overdue. The idea of Thomas Middleditch running around Mexico naked is enough to warrant a VOD viewing. But then you throw in TJ Miller, Adam Pally, who had a great cameo in Iron Man 3, and a number of other fun castmembers and I can only wonder what the hell happened when it came to how hard it was to get Search Party to theaters. Aren't we long overdue for a fun Hard-R comedy featuring drugs, nudity and Mexico? I think so.

Plus we get to see Krysten Ritter in her underwear, and one can never go wrong with that. Right?

I'm spitballing here, as then you throw in all the er, shenanigans previewed in the red band trailer and Search Party looks like it is definitely worth a visit to the movie theater. Why Universal, Why!? Where is this comedy going wrong? I don't see it, but maybe some of those who saw early screenings or festival runs might have some negative insight to report.
