Trailer for Sailing a Sinking Sea.

Sailing a Sinking Sea is a lyrical cinematic collage of one of the smallest cultural groups in Southeast Asia, the nomadic, seafaring Moken of Myanmar and Thailand, whose entire belief system revolves around their love for the water. Their intimate knowledge of the sea saved them in the tsunami of 2004, which their revered shamans predicted. But this 3,500-year-old culture and way of life is changing at a rapid pace, with signs of contemporary influences showing up amongst more traditional practices. As they go about their daily life, the Moken tell of their rituals around family, relationships and fertility that are passed on from one generation to the next. They share their music and songs that call out to the fish and folklore about mermaids who save people who fall into the sea. The Moken open up their lives in this exquisite and moving film about a culture's desire to survive in changing times.
