Trailer for Romeo Is Bleeding.
Two neighborhoods, both alike in poverty and despair in unfair Richmond, California, in heedless fury pursue a gun-fueled feud that daily claims black lives on both sides. From this mad bloodlust—and one of the most terrifying families on either side—strides Donte Clark, the unlikeliest of poets, encouraged to find his voice by young white teacher Molly Raynor, who recognizes the genius within. She and Clark lead RAW Talent, an after-school slam poetry workshop that aims to heal by exploring teenage lives in a world defined by gang violence, drug wars, and constant sorrow. This year, the group of students, now numbering nearly 50, decides to attempt an urban adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, written by Clark. “This is our story,” he tells a friend on the street, and this is R+J like you’ve never seen it.
