In this funny and poignant epic romancer, the intertwined love lives of four lost souls are the focus of renowned Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To’s latest ballad, set in the majestic mountains of Yunnan province. Louis Koo plays Michael Lau, a famous film star who retreats to an isolated Shangri La Inn after his actress wife Yuan Yuan (Gao Yuanyuan) has a very public indiscretion. The innkeeper is Sue (Sammi Cheng), a haunted woman holding on to memories of her husband, who disappeared seven years ago. Michael Lau and Sue find in each other kindred wounded spirits, and with the beauty of their surroundings, their wounds begin to heal in some rather romantic ways. Together, they unravel one another’s pasts, with the hope that they can help each other move forward.
