Roman J. Israel, Esq. is a dramatic thriller set in the underbelly of the overburdened Los Angeles criminal court system. Denzel Washington stars as a driven, idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when a turbulent series of events challenge the activism that has defined his career. Colin Farrell costars as the ambitious, monied lawyer who recruits Roman to his firm.

Roman J. Israel, Esq is the second feature for director Dan Gilroy, with his first being Nightcrawler. Not much of a surprise that this is also a thriller, a genre the helmer is comfortable with.

The film's title was original a lot shorter, simply being titled Inner City.

What makes Roman J. Israel, Esq trailer fun to watch is the look that Denzel Washington is rocking. It's awesome. His character's dialogue? Also awesome. 

And, while the trailer kicks off on a fun note, it gets pretty serious in the latter half. Turns out greed has consequences.
