Trailer for River, which screened at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
In the south of Laos, an American doctor (Rossif Sutherland) becomes a fugitive after he intervenes in the sexual assault of a young woman. When the assailant's body is pulled from the Mekong River, things quickly spiral out of control.
River gets the credit for being the first ever North American film to be shot in Laos. It looks like the tough filming location worked, as the film is described as realistically gritty. And, though almost every critic had positive things to say about the thriller, they do admit that the film would likely find an audience among arthouse fans rather than pulling in a wider appeal.
The trailer for River does not shy away from the film's overall premise of "evade capture at all costs." While it doesn't show some of the film's more gruesome scenes, I guess they are saving those for a red band, there is enough here to suggest that you should be sitting on the edge of your seat for the entire running.
