Red Sparrow Theatrical Trailer

in Red Sparrow | Posted on January 08, 2018 Runtime: 2:30

New trailer for Red Sparrow, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton and Matthias Schoenaerts, gives better backstory for the film.

Dominika Egorova is many things. A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs. A prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit. A master of seductive and manipulative combat.

When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. That is why she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.

This adaptation saw a number of substitutions during early development. The first direct on board was Darren Aronofsky, who ended up running off to do his own thing shortly after. He was quickly replaced by David Fincher, who wanted Rooney Mara to star. That combo also fell through, leading to the hiring of Francis Lawrence to direct, and Jennifer Lawrence to star. The duo have a long history together.

It's been reported that, while filming, Jennifer Lawrence got in an actual bar fight while in Budapest.

An origin story! While the first trailer for the film makes it look like we are jumping right into the middle of the story, this new preview explains how Dominika Egorova ended up becoming a Sparrow. And, like the best origin stories, we get to see some nice training montages.

To add further intrigue to the story, it looks like this character is playing in a grey area, where its impossible to tell who is friend or foe. Or whether she is hero or villain.

All in all, I like it!
