Trailer for Putuparri and the Rainmakers.

For over 40,000 years, Tom "Putuparri" Lawford's people lived a nomadic life in the desert of Western Australia. Surrounded by sacred waterholes—the greatest of them named Kurtal—they knew the Great Sandy Desert would always provide. But when Europeans arrived, their cattle and horses fouled the water holes, forcing Indigenous people off their land. Now Putuparri struggles between two worlds as he tries to reconcile his dark past with his brighter (yet challenging) future as the leader of his people—a leader who bears responsibility for reconnecting with ancestral lands, learning about traditional culture and passing the knowledge to the next generation. In this cinematically breathtaking film, director Nicole Ma spends more than a decade documenting Putuparri's journey and that of his family to fight for Indigenous law and to reclaim title to the ancestral lands that hold the mighty Kurtal.
