Trailer for Professor Marston & the Wonder Women.

In a superhero origin tale unlike any other, the film is the incredible true story of what inspired Harvard psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston to create the iconic Wonder Woman character in the 1940's. While Marston's feminist superhero was criticized by censors for her 'sexual perversity', he was keeping a secret that could have destroyed him. Marston’s muses for the Wonder Woman character were his wife Elizabeth Marston and their lover Olive Byrne, two empowered women who defied convention: working with Marston on human behavior research -- while building a hidden life with him that rivaled the greatest of superhero disguises.

The film is written and directed by Angela Robinson. This will be just her second feature film. The first was Herbie Fully Loaded starring Lindsay Lohan, Michael Keaton and Cheryl Hines. Angela has most of her experience in TV where she was a Producer for The L Word, Hung and True Blood.

Professor Marston & the Wonder Women Trailer Screen Shot 1
The film follows William Moulton Marston (played by Luke Evans) and his creation of Wonder Woman. He wrote the comic book under the pen name Charles Moulton. Wonder Woman made her debut in All Star Comics #8 in December 1941. She next appeared in Sensation Comics #1 (January 1942), and six months later, Wonder Woman #1 debuted.

Wonder Woman's original name was "Suprema".

William Moulton Marston was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2006.

I love stories like this. Everybody knows about Wonder Woman, but majority of people have no idea the story behind how she was created and especially the interesting life her creator led back in the 1940's. In a time where women were thought of less than men, he was brave enough to create a female super hero and on top of that he lived a controversial lifestyle by having two women in his life.

The timing of this film could not be any better. It is coming soon after the huge success of Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot which is still very fresh in audiences minds. Of course this film is just the backstory behind the superhero and there will be no action, but it should pique the interests of some. It will not be a blockbuster hit, but think it will be interesting enough to catch On Demand.
