Don't tell director David Mackenzie that it's ever too late to make last-minute edits to your film. After premiering Outlaw King at the Toronto International Film Festival, he used the feedback to cut a whopping 20-minutes from the film's theatrical length. That is a lot of minutes!
So maybe a Director's Cut?
There is a lot to like about Outlaw King. While I'd normally have doubts about a Netflix feature being able to pull of battles previously seen in film's like Braveheart, we have now seen what HBO was able to accomplish in Game of Thrones, and those battles are insane.
Another refreshing change is that the marketing is holding back on the visuals. Instead of coming off desperate to impress, Netflix is withholding most of the film's action. We are told it's pretty gory, so glad it will come as a surprise when this film hits theaters... and Netflix.
