Olga Trailer (2014)

Trailer for Olga.

It’s solid white as far as the eye can see and Olga’s body is a tiny speck of black walking across the endless snow. She lives all alone in a reindeer herdsman’s cabin in the Russian tundra, some 1,800 kilometres north of Moscow. Battling bone-chilling temperatures most of the year, her job is safeguarding the canned provisions on which the herdsmen rely for survival during summer. “Men are like bears in spring,” she says, “unreliable, violent and hungry.” But for Olga, this is home, where she has lived since she was a teenager. She has no other place to go. So when rumours of the imminent shutdown of her brigade start circulating, the question looms: What will Olga do when all the reindeer are slaughtered and she loses her job and her home? Director Paul-Anders Simma’s stunning portrait of a simple life lived in isolation masterfully captures the extremes which only the human spirit is capable of: simplicity and depth, incredible strength and infinite vulnerability.
