Nearly 100 years ago, Dr. John Romulus Brinkley discovered a miracle. For men suffering from impotence, Brinkley developed a solution and cure from an unlikely source: goat testicles. The results didn't exactly deliver on the promise Brinkley was selling but this account is less about science and more about the human desire to believe in miracles and mythmakers. Filmmaker Penny Lane reviews Brinkley's legacy through inventive formal constructions, using animations, recreations and a questionable narrator that guides us along. The story is woven full of humour, originality, joy, disbelief and awe. Brinkley's rise and fall covers politics, radio stations, immense wealth and a significant dose of deception in between. But beyond Brinkley's fanciful journey, Nuts! makes you question why humanity is so quick to buy into a lie and whether we should we should even trust the filmmakers who spin these tales.
