Jacob Nossell, a bright young Dane of Korean descent, creates an interactive stage play for the Royal Danish Theatre. Based on his experiences living with cerebral palsy, he asks difficult yet necessary existential questions about normality and ability. Using self-deprecating humour and scathing honesty, he exposes the most monstrous aspects of society—the intolerance and discrimination that people normally keep well hidden. Nossell questions whether he deserves to live, and speculates on what the future might hold for "his kind" as science makes it possible to select and deselect genes. As he tackles what is and isn't "normal" on stage, he demonstrates just how typical he is offstage during a crisis of confidence, and later, a bout of stage fright. Natural Disorder is a captivating behind-the-scenes documentary about the process of writing and producing a play that employs video, special effects and audience participation in new and exciting ways.
