There’s just one snag. As Paul unpacks, he discovers that something has been left behind with his difficult former roommate, Nancy—a battered copy of Charles Dickens’s Little Dorrit containing personal notes that he feels hold the key to his dissertation and his future. In order to retrieve it, he proceeds to drive himself and Nancy crazy. As he becomes increasingly consumed with getting the book back, yet another reason to procrastinate, shades of Hitchcock emerge. Creepy squirrels in the walls only add to this sinister tale of writer’s block gone awry. As his relationship, career, and sanity begin to unravel, Paul’s obsession with the book and vindictive Nancy fuels this compelling and sometimes terrifying psychodrama of mental and physical torment.
