The trailer for My Perestroika which will make its Canadian Premiere at the 2010 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

My Perestroika follows five ordinary Russians living in extraordinary times, from their sheltered Soviet childhood, to the collapse of the Soviet Union during their teenage years, to the constantly shifting political landscape of post-Soviet Russia. Together these childhood classmates paint a complex picture of the dreams and disillusionments of those raised behind the Iron Curtain. Lyuba was a conformist who would salute the TV when it played the Soviet hymn. Borya, who is Jewish, preferred to subvert the system whenever possible. Ruslan was a famous punk rocker who now busks in the metro, while Andrei, an entrepreneur who owns a chain of menswear stores, has thrived under the new Russian capitalism. Single mother Olga Durikova ekes out a living as rep for a billiards table company. Interweaving the contemporary world with fascinating home movie footage from the 1970s and ‘80s, My Perestroika offers an intimate and compelling portrait of the myriad challenges faced by the last of generation of Soviet children.
