Trailer for Mothers and Daughters, starring Christina Ricci, Sharon Stone and Courteney Cox.

Mothers and Daughters features interwoven stories about what it means to be a mom, which are tied together via single gal Rigby Gray, a rock photographer who's riding a career high when an unlikely and unexpected pregnancy forces her to turn her lens inward. As Rigby slowly comes to terms with what it might mean to change her life forever, she discovers with fresh eyes her own relationship with her estranged mother. Through a series of photographs documenting motherhood in all its varieties, she considers what it means to be maternal at all. Director Paul Duddridge’s film is a celebration of the unparalleled love between mothers and their children and the myriad ways they connect in today’s modern world.

The Truth

If you were thinking that Mothers and Daughters sounds a whole lot like Garry Marshall's Mother's Day, the film was actually originally titled Mother's Day and changed the title to avoid confusion with Garry Marshall's. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up. These movies are basically clones of one another.

Let me start my critique by stating that I'm a dude, so there is absolutely no chance I'll be racing to theaters to catch Mothers and Daughters... or Mother's Day for that matter. Sure, the trailer for the film shows off a strong female ensemble backed up with some male castmembers, but know what it has the most of? Drama. Yikes.

Okay, and love between family members, but still, this isn't for me. If anything, it somewhat depresses me to see some of my early teen crushes age, reminding me that I am also getting older; but not aging, of course. Sigh--Thanks Mothers and Daughters trailer.
