Teaser trailer for Mortal Engines, starring Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar and Robert Sheehan.
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future. Mortal Engines is the new epic adventure directed by Oscar-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers.
Peter Jackson is showing a lot of faith in director Christian Rivers. Having worked in the art department for most of Jackson's films, Mortal Engines is only the second feature that will place Rivers behind the camera.
One of the best things about Peter Jackson adapting Mortal Engines is that the books are now getting some serious attention. There are seven books in this collection from Philip Reeve? That's a lot of reading! I'm running out of Dark Tower novels, so maybe this will be next up for me.
In regards to the film itself, it's hard to pass much judgment based on this teaser trailer. It does, however, give a pretty solid preview of what a mobile city would look like.
