Moana Trailer (2016)

Trailer for Moana.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Moana, a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.

There is quite lineup of voice-over actors/actresses in this film, here is a little more about the characters they play:

Newcomer Auli'i Cravalho voices Moana. Only daughter of a chief, Moana begins to discover powers of her own.

Dwayne Johnson voices Maui, just like the island. A fun-loving Demi-god, Maui takes a bit of convincing to join Moana on her adventure.

Temuera Morrison, who many remember as Jango Fett in the new Star Wars trilogy, voices Chief Tui. Disney has a history of creating overprotective parents, and Chief Tui is no different in regards to Moana. His parenting duties are supported by Nicole Scherzinger who voices Sina, Moana's mother.

Flight of the Conchord's Jemaine Clement, who recently starred in the fauxumentary What We Do in the Shadows, voices Tamatoa. A perfect voice for bright characters, Tamatoa is a villainous 50-foot crab encountered by MOana and Maui while they are in Lalotai, the realm of monsters.

Even the rooster, who we see get in all sorts of mischief in the trailer, has a voice. Alan Tudyk is Hei Hei. Since that sort of voicework is limited, Tudyk will also voice two other characters.

Directed by the renowned film making team of Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog) and produced by Osnat Shurer (Lifted, One Man Band).

Disney is right on track with their promotion materials for Moana. First they start off with a complete tease in the Viral Featurette we got back in January. And then we do not get our first Teaser Trailer until June, which was a true teaser and did not divulge very much about the film. And now we get our first full Trailer.

As with all of Disney's latest movies, the visuals are amazing. There is a lot of fast action with tons of moving parts and it all looks great...details! Dwayne Johnson being the voice of Maui is starting to grow on me. He does have quite an over the top masculine voice which is critical for animated films, plus when you look at Maui you cab definitely picture the Rock in him.

I was a little skeptical of this film, but after watching this trailer I am more excited to see it. The film seems to be jam packed with humor (of course assuming they did not just show us all the funny parts) and looks to be a fantastical adventure. I know my kids will definitely want to see this when it hits theaters and now I am too.
