Trailer for Mascots, starring Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Chris O'Dowd and Zach Woods.
Mascots is a new comedy from Christopher Guest, director of Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show. Starring many of his regular troupe of actors, this latest film takes place in the ultra-competitive world of sports mascots where they compete for the most prestigious award in their field, the Gold Fluffy.
If the comedic formula to Mascots feels familiar, that is because the film is helmed by Christopher Guest. This is the same director that gave us For Your Consideration and Best in Show. His genre of specialty is mockumentary.
Not too much is known about the production of Mascots, save for the fact that the film has been selected to be shown under the Special Presentations category at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.
Like Best in Show, the Mascots trailer presents somewhat of an eccentric, dry, or what I'd call "English comedy." Not to offend, but it's the best way I can describe it. This Christopher Guest installment, however, seems to have more commercial appeal than his previous mockumentaries. The idea of a film based on mascots is already awesome, but then you fill the story with a terrific number of characters. All supported by an ensemble cast.
While the film is chock full of Guest regulars, the scene-stealing pair might go to Zach Woods and Sarah Baker. The preview makes it a point to kick off by introducing them as a Mascot duo that's also married. Any advice for being a mascot?
"Even if people are screaming at you, you are not allowed to talk. And that's a good lesson for a marriage."
Classic.
Definitely looking forward to seeing Mascots, and having it distributed on Netflix should guarantee a huge audience. And, remember: Mascots don't die, they just hang in a closet.
