Trailer for Loving, starring Ruth Negga, Marton Csokas, Michael Shannon and Joel Edgerton.

From acclaimed writer/director Jeff Nichols, Loving celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving (Edgerton and Negga), who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry – and their love story has become an inspiration to couples ever since.

Focus Features has been a big fan of this biopic ever seeing some of the first footage. The distributor paid $9 million for domestic distribution rights long before the film was done with post-production. Jeff Nichols tried to accurately portray the story featured in the documentary The Loving Story through this feature film, which takes place in a segregated Virginia during the late 50s.

And it seems like the director (and Focus) nailed it, as Loving got a standing ovation at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

All you have to do is mention a cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Michael Shannon, Marton Scokas and Ruth Negga and I can't help but be interested, no matter what the story. Then you mix in a powerful story, a serious looking Nick Kroll, and a big helping of history and one can't help but agree with Focus Features -- they could have a box office-worthy drama on their hands.

By releasing the trailer for Loving, Focus shows off a cast that all look on point, a story that is bound to pull on the emotional heart strings, and terrific cinematography to boot. Can't find a single thing to complain about really, and would love to see Edgerton and Negga get an Oscar nod out of this.
