Carolyn Cassady has spent half her life fighting a losing battle for the truth. The drug-fuelled, self-destructive shenanigans that forever enshrined the men she loved in American culture don’t fit the memories she still cherishes of Neal as a (sometimes) good husband and loving father to their three children. Her kids encourage her to commodify the memory of their truant father to help pay the bills. Between graceful drags on her long, slim cigarettes, ever elegant in pink lipstick and yellow rubber gloves, Carolyn negotiates her ambivalence with exacting self-awareness.
