Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat’s stylish documentary peers into the private lives of a diverse cross-section of Argentines through their dancing. Presented in a series of static long takes, each unique piece sets the tone for the characters and their dancing styles. A dentist sambas around his office to Lionel Richie’s "All Night Long." A teen performs a carefully constructed series of ballet moves on a playground to David Guetta’s "Titanium." A young boy does his best Michael Jackson moves to "Beat It" while his dad fixes their car in the garage. Capturing the essence of these real people from just their body movements, Cohn and Duprat build a playful, artistic experiment punctuated with a series of perfect details. Intoxicating and infectious, Living Stars might just be the most fun you have in a movie theatre this year.
