La La Land Teaser Trailer (2016)

Teaser trailer for La La Land, starring .

Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Damien Chazelle, La La Land tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are becoming the new Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan, or maybe even Richard Gere & Julia Roberts. The duo have already found love twice on the bigscreen thanks to Crazy, Stupid, Love and Gangster Squad, which is why this pairing makes sense. But that doesn't mean they were the first to be sought for the production.

It turns out that Miles Teller and Emma Watson were the first to be cast for La La Land. Teller was soon dropped in favor of Gosling, and Watson decided she'd rather do Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, which had scheduling conflicts. The move came as a bit of irony, as Ryan Gosling turned down the role of Beast for that same remake in order to pursue this role instead.

Since it's a rarity to see a true teaser trailer nowadays, it's good to see that the first preview of La La Land definitely fits the definition. Featuring the track "City of Stars" by, if you'd believe it, Ryan Gosling, the first trailer for the musical is all about the visuals and (of course) Ryan's vocals.

The cinematography looks excellent, Ryan sounds great, and our leading couple looks entirely comfortable dancing around in the musical genre.

For now, enjoy the visuals, as it looks like Summit is saving the plot for the next trailer.
