In 2009, a Guatemalan Lawyer named Rodrigo Rosenberg was murdered while going for an early morning bike ride. The country is unfortunately no stranger to violent crimes, however a few days later, a video surfaced on YouTube that would capture the attention of the whole country. Rosenberg himself was seated in front of a camera and microphone and began to speak about his disdain for the current state of his country and his government. He then made an accusation and a prophecy that went straight to the top: “Sadly, ladies and gentlemen, if you are watching this video, it’s because I’ve been murdered by President Álvaro Colom.” The video ignited a frenzy that elevated the murder investigation into a national sensation. The YouTube clip proved to be only the beginning in a case that revealed layers of conspiracy, love, tragedy and an ending to a murder investigation like nothing Guatemala had ever seen before.
