A true story based on lies, this film tells the story of the twilight of Romanian communism and the impact of the popular 80s TV show Dallas, the only American programming allowed on Romanian television. Filled with glamour, affluence and corruption, the show was meant to be a warning against the evils of capitalism. Instead, it's been said it instigated communism's toppling in the country. Inspired by the wealth of Dallas is Ilie, a small-time criminal and aspiring capitalist who builds a life-sized replica of the famed Dallas ranch house, Southfork. His daughter Livia, who's in love with Dallas actor Patrick Duffy, emigrates to America in hopes of becoming a filmmaker directing a movie with Duffy as the star. Expertly weaving fact, fiction and fantasy, this surreal odyssey journeys from Romania to America and back again in a powerful exploration of communism and the seductive illusion of fairy tales.
