Red Band Trailer for Hands of Stone.
Follows the life of Roberto Duran, who made his professional debut in 1968 as a 16-year-old and retired in 2002 at age 50. In June 1980, he defeated Sugar Ray Leonard to capture the WBC welterweight title but shocked the boxing world by returning to his corner in the November rematch, saying 'no mas' (no more).
Roberto Durán was nicknamed "Manos de Piedra" ("Hands of Stone")
In 2002, Durán was voted by The Ring magazine as the fifth greatest fighter of the last 80 years, while boxing historian Bert Sugar rated him as the eighth greatest fighter of all time. The Associated Press voted him as the #1 lightweight of the 20th century, with many considering him the greatest lightweight of all time. Durán held world titles in four different weight classes: lightweight (1972–79), welterweight (1980), light middleweight (1983–84) and middleweight (1989).
He was the second boxer to have fought a span of five decades, the first being Jack Johnson. However, Durán is most infamous for abruptly forfeiting his welterweight title in the middle of his 1980 rematch with challenger Sugar Ray Leonard.
He finally retired in January 2002 at age 50 (having previously retired in 1998) following a bad car crash in October 2001, with a professional record of 119 fights, 103 wins with 69 knockouts.
I will have to be honest, I was not expecting a red band trailer for this movie, but it is a pleasant surprise. I am glad to see they held nothing back in making this film. The safer route would to go for a PG rating like most boxing films. Director Jonathan Jakubowicz must have thought the nudity was an integral part of the film and had to be in there to stay true to the actual story.
Hands of Stone definitely has the thrill aspect you see in almost all boxing movies like Rocky, Cinderella Man, Raging Bull, etc. You are rooting for the underdog, but with this story we already (well most people) know what happens.
The acting looks to be great from Edgar Ramírez and Usher which I am very happy to see. Plus you ladies get to see Usher's butt! I will definitely catch this film when it comes out!
