Trailer for Hacksaw Ridge.
Hacksaw Ridge is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
The real life Desmond T. Doss only accepted one Medal of Honor. It had initially been proposed that he received two, but he humbly declined.
Milo Gibson, son of Mel Gibson, has a small role as a soldier in the film. It's the first collaboration between the two and it marks Milo Gibson's screen debut.
Mel Gibson is back in the Director chair after 10 years since his last film:
It is amazing to me that there are still real life stories like this one that are not public knowledge. I was not aware of Desmond T. Doss and his incredible heroic feats.
Some controversy is going around that since Desmond T. Doss is an
American, why was British actor Andrew Garfield cast to play him? For
me, it does not bother me all that much, but I do think that Andrew
looks a bit lackluster based on the trailer.
Mel Gibson sure has been in the press in the past years not for his movies, but for negative aspects in his personal life. Yet, he has still slowly been acting in a movie each year which were not great nor successful. His last film Expendables 3 you could say was his first big role since the great film Signs. And, now he is bringing Hacksaw Ridge to the table, which based on this trailer looks to be great too.
