Guañape Sur Trailer (2011)

There’s dirty work, and then there’s downright filthy. Once every 11 years, 200 labourers ship out to a barren island off the coast of Peru. Home only to sea birds, the island’s rare meteorological conditions harden the birds’ excrement into ammonia-rich fertilizer. Stunning camerawork captures the workers chipping and loading the waste, risking lethal bacteria and harsh conditions for their pay.
