Having lost his mother long ago, twelve-year-old Tomek lives with his grandparents in a small Polish village. Though lonely and friendless, he has a passion for cars, and spends all his free time in the garage with Raszynski, a local mechanic, who teaches him how to build and repair them. Determined to reunite with his long-lost father, Tomek runs away from home and embarks on a journey across southern Poland. He quickly runs into obstacles, but receives aid from an unexpected companion: the mysterious and charming youth Gabriel, who joins him on his search. With his new friend’s help, Tomek moves ever nearer to his goal—and a long-kept family secret.
