Trailer for the documentary From Mother to Daughter.
A documentary that captures a fleeting moment of Italy’s history as it traces the unique story of a Choir of twenty women, today many in their eighties. From fairs to festivals, they sing the songs of protest, love, and melancholy of so many decades ago as they toiled, all women, in the rice paddies made famous by Silvana Mangano and "Bitter Rice". As children they had known only an Italy devastated by fascism and the War, at thirteen they were sent away to work as rice weeders. Many continued until sixty. Though their youth and dreams were denied to them, today they return, accompanied by their daughters, as active protagonists.
