Farmer's Song Trailer

in Farmer's Song | Posted on June 21, 2009 Runtime: 2:01

Protectionism and free trade are controversial issues that can have a tremendous impact on a nation's economic success and sovereignty. They have received renewed attention in North America in recent months, but were at the forefront of the conversation in South Korea in 2006 and 2007 as a Free Trade Agreement between that country and the United States was being finalized. With their livelihoods already threatened by an influx of imported agricultural products, farmers across South Korea protested the impending policy, doing everything from rallying in the face of heavily armed riot police to confronting store owners who sold US beef. A compelling document of their struggles, Farmer's Song follows the beleaguered farmers as they battle many opponents, not least dissatisfaction and dissent from within their own ranks, as those more comfortable with a quiet, agrarian lifestyle are forced to adopt aggressive urban methods to preserve their way of life.
