This could be Director Meera Menon's breakout film. She onl has previous experience of Directing a short film Mark in Argentina (2009) and Farah Goes Bang (2013). Neither film was picked up by a studio.

Equity was picked up by Sony PIctures Classics after debuting at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

I remember hearing good things about this film from people who saw it at Sundance. And after seeing the trailer, it does look pretty good. I do like how they are taking on the convoluted corrupt world of Wall Street with a female lead.

Based on the trailer, Anna Gunn looks to have done a great job at carrying the film and portraying a strong woman dominating the cut-throat world of finance. You can tell the difference between a high budget film and the production value in this film. So, in order for this film to succeed it will come down to story and how captivating it is and what unique angle it takes.
