This Death Wish film is a remake of the 1974 American vigilante action film, loosely based on the 1972 novel of the same title by Brian Garfield. The film was directed by Michael Winner and stared Charles Bronson as Paul Kersey (now played by Bruce Willis). The 1974 film was the first of five in the Death Wish film franchise:

Death Wish (1974)
Death Wish II (1982)
Death Wish 3 (1985)
Death Wish 4: The Crackdown (1987)
Death Wish V: The Face of Death (1994)

It is nice to see Eli Roth back in the Director's chair. It has been a few years since his last film Knock Knock came out in 2015. The other films he directed include: The Green Inferno, Hostel: Part II, Hotel and Cabin Fever.

Of course with Eli Roth sitting in the Director's chair you would except tons of gore, but he seems to be more reserved in this film and going for a more mainstream approach...which can be a good thing. It is like we get a Batman vigilante that brutally kills people. Just like Bruce Wayne, they both lose a loved one and decide to take the law into their own hands.

One complaint about the original book is that the vast majority is a build up to when Paul Kersey finally goes on a killing spree, which only happens in the final 50 pages of the book. I just hope that this movie does not take that long to get the action started. I like the casting and Eli as the Director, but I am hoping it is less Taken 2 and more Inglourious Basterds.
