Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny Feature Trailer (2016)
Feature trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, which will premiere on Netflix.
A story of lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption.
While Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny will premiere on Netflix, moviegoers do not need to subscribe to the premium network to see it. Like they did with Beasts of No Nation, Netflix will distribute the film to theaters as well.
Fans of the franchise will notice that Ziyi Zhang did not return to reprise her role.
To be honest, I always liked House of Flying Daggers more than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. While the latter does get credit for re-establishing the martial-fantasy-arts franchise, I wasn't as won over as the rest of Hollywood.
Based on the trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, I can't help but feel that the film was made only because a sequel was expected sooner or later; or cough - cash grab - cough. The catch is that it is now a lot later, and everything about the franchise feels cheapened and er, domesticated. Tack on some pretty mediocre CG effects and we have further problems. While Netflix does hope for some theatrical draw, Sword of Destiny will likely have just enough to be queued up at home.
