Trailer for Cobalt Blue, which screened at the 2009 Hawaii International Film Festival.

Cobalt Blue takes us through the silent passions harbored by two generations of a small fishing community in a remote island of Okinawa. Fatally ill, Tokyo pianist Yukiko Morishita (Misato Tanaka), comes to this island, falls in love with a fisherman (Kuranosuke Sasaki), and dies after giving birth to their daughter, Ryoko (Masami Nagasawa). In this small island world, Ryoko has only two other children her age, Kazuya (Shinji Rachi) and Daisuke (Seiji Fukushi). We watch as Ryoko discovers her mother's love of music, Daisuke leaves for art school, and Kazuya bravely sings of his love for Ryoko. After a tragic diving accident takes her lover, Ryoko retreats into silent mourning until her father, the entire island community, and Daisuke slowly bring her back. Surrounded by the blue expanses of ocean and sky, the people and place of Okinawa loom as more than landscape in this tightly told drama about love and loss.
